About the Book

In the peaceful countryside of southern England, a mysterious mist blankets the land, awakening long-forgotten phantoms and mythical beasts.

A psychiatrist struggling with her own sanity, finds herself treating the ghosts who appear before her. At the same time, a concerned father brings his son to her – a boy whose unsettling paintings hint at something darker. When the boy suddenly disappears, the doctor is thrust into a dangerous journey through the Cotswolds, determined to uncover the truth behind his vanishing and its connection to local legends.

Her search leads her to haunted places: the tolling phantom bells of Broadway Tower, a skeletal dinosaur in Chipping Norton, the haunted ruins of Castle Combe, and more. Each step brings her closer to the hidden creatures of the Cotswolds, as she investigates her theory that one of them has taken the child.

Rooted in the rich history and legends of the Cotswolds, this story explores the timeless mysteries of this enchanting region, known for its heritage beauty.

As Seen On:

About The Cinematic Novel

Cotswold Mist is an illustrated cinematic fantasy novel for adults and older children, written by cinematographer Inga Teder. Every chapter unfolds like a carefully framed scene, with illustrations crafted in the visual language of cinema.

Inspired by true local historical events and regional mythology, the story is rooted in the picturesque towns, villages, and landmarks of the Cotswolds. As the journey unfolds, readers encounter mythical entities hidden beneath the familiar landscapes of southwest England.

The book features 28 full-colour digital illustrations created by 15 professional artists, each introducing new locations and creatures as the story moves deeper into the mist.

Illustrations By Industry Masters

The book features illustrations by renowned illustrators and concept artists from around the world, each bringing a deep passion for storytelling and visual world-building. Their experience spans film, television, and games, including work on The Wandering Earth, Stranger Things, and SMITE.

The illustrations were created using a range of techniques, from digital painting to traditional hand-drawn methods, sometimes incorporating 3D modelling elements to achieve depth and realism. Together, these approaches bring hyper-real characters and the landscapes of Cotswold Mist vividly to life, enhancing the atmosphere and emotional tone of the story.

Journey Through Cotswold Locations

Each chapter of Cotswold Mist is rooted in a real location across the Cotswolds, weaving folklore and imagination into towns, landmarks, and hidden corners of the landscape. As the journey unfolds, familiar places are reimagined through myth, mystery, and the creatures said to linger beneath the mist.

Reimagining Cotswold History

Inspired by the 17th-century story of Sarah Eayns, who saved her Royalist husband from Parliamentarian soldiers by hiding him at Chastleton House, the novel reimagines Sarah as a ghost haunting the manor, forever bound to her courageous act.
